Who We Are

The CREATE Centre is an interdisciplinary hub dedicated to tackling complex urban challenges through research, education, and policy engagement. Grounded in systems thinking, the Centre integrates expertise from health, social sciences, environmental studies, and technology to generate solutions that are evidence-based, practical, and scalable.

Mission

We work to empower communities, educate professionals, and influence policy through approaches that are:

  • Interdisciplinary – drawing on diverse expertise and perspectives.

  • Practical – grounded in real-world needs and contexts.

  • Scalable – adaptable and replicable across different settings.

Core Strands of Work

  • Population Health: We address inequalities in health outcomes by identifying social and environmental determinants, developing interventions, and supporting policies that improve wellbeing at scale.

  • Resilience: We study and strengthen the capacity of systems, organisations, and communities to withstand shocks, adapt to change, and recover from crises.

  • Sustainability: We contribute to global sustainability goals by promoting strategies that balance human health, environmental stewardship, and socio-economic development.

Research and Innovation

Our research draws on interdisciplinary collaborations across academia, government, and civil society. Using systems-based methods, we investigate the intersections of health, climate, urbanisation, and social equity. Projects range from empirical studies and modelling to pilot interventions and large-scale evaluations.

Education and Capacity Building

The CREATE Centre provides training for professionals and students through workshops and certificate courses. We aim to equip the next generation of leaders with the tools to design and implement integrated solutions for urban health and sustainability.

Policy and Practice Engagement
We work closely with policymakers, practitioners, and community stakeholders to ensure that evidence is translated into action. By bridging research and practice, the Centre seeks to influence decision-making at local, national, and international levels.

Why It Matters

Urban environments are increasingly complex, with health, climate, and social issues deeply intertwined. The CREATE Centre provides a collaborative platform to generate knowledge, test innovative models, and scale what works, helping shape healthier, fairer, and more resilient futures.
